Pullulan capsules are plant-based, two-piece hard shells made from pullulan, a natural water-soluble polysaccharide produced by fermenting tapioca or sugar-cane starch using the fungus Aureobasidium pullulans. They offer a clean-label, vegan alternative to gelatin and HPMC capsules, combining excellent oxygen barrier properties with full compatibility for vegetarian, vegan, Halal, Kosher, and organic certifications.
Pullulan capsules are particularly valued for protecting oxygen-sensitive ingredients (e.g., probiotics, omega-3 oils, vitamins, botanical extracts) and are widely used in premium nutraceuticals, organic supplements, and specialty pharmaceuticals.
